OUR VISION
WHAT IS SPARK?
A program designed to attract high school, trade school and college-age kids to exciting careers in motorsports.
REASONS FOR BEING:
1) Helping kids by providing access to exciting career opportunities they might not even have known existed. 2) Helping the sport by bringing young, talented, pre-qualified candidates they might not otherwise find. 3) Helping the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America and motorsports history by building a catalog of recorded interviews with some of the most important people throughout racing.
HOW IT WORKS:
STEP 1: Interviews
Students complete an intake questionnaire which reveals their skills, career goals and interests. Once accepted, they interview by zoom a leader in motorsports past or present who is a good fit for their interests, and a potential mentor.
STEP 2: Mentorship
Once the interview is complete, the student continues with the interview subject as their mentor or we arrange a different motor racing legend to be their mentor. The form and duration of the mentorship is defined by the mentor and how well the student works with them.
STEP 3: Internship
Optional. For many kids, a mentor is the greatest gift help SPARK can provide. For others, a mentorship PLUS a hands-on internship or externship will be ideal. Because internships involve more variables — location, schedule availability, type of work, training requirements, paid or unpaid — we cannot provide internships to everybody, but we have a growing list of companies and organizations from which to select.
STEP 4: Tracking
SPARK students are required to check in yearly for the first five years with updates about their progress, unless they opt out of motorsports as a career path. This not only enables us to continually optimize the program but also present students with ongoing opportunities and advice.
